In our latest Trade Legend Spotlight, Codey chats with us about her passion for seeing people perform at their best and what she does to recharge her batteries. 

How would you describe what you do to a 9-year-old? 

My job is all about the people. At Trade Ledger, I help people and their managers create an environment where everyone can do the things they are best at. 

Everyone’s good at different things, and companies who can find, celebrate and continue to grow people with different strengths are often the most successful.

We also want people to be happy at work, but sometimes even grown-ups feel a bit sad, so they might come to me to talk things over and we try to find a solution together. On rare occasions, even adults can be naughty, so it’s my job to find out what happened and make sure that the problem is resolved. 

What project are you most proud of delivering here, at Trade Ledger?

Early on in my time at Trade Ledger, I facilitated a few team activities, one of which was to create a timeline of our company's history. It included many of the company’s major milestones, like when customers and certain parts of the platform went live, winning Fintech awards and when everyone in the team joined the company. 

It was a very memorable experience. The team pieced it all together, debating which order things happened, and, most importantly, appreciated how far we’d come. 

It’s great - for any business - to look back and reflect, and celebrate the journey along the way.

We have continued to achieve so much, so I’m thinking it might be time to revisit that activity again soon…

What keeps you motivated at work?

The people I work with and witnessing great things happen. Whether it’s easing someone’s nerves in their first few weeks, developing a learning & development plan that leads to someone transforming their career path, or sometimes facilitating difficult conversations that lead to greater resolution between team members. 

The moments may be big or small, they may affect an individual, a team or the whole company, but people and great outcomes are what motivates me at work. 

Describe your ideal Legend Day.

My ideal Legend Day would be spent taking the doggo, Winston, for a walk and enjoying a nice coffee in the morning. A little yoga. But mostly spent laying on the beach on a Sydney Summer’s day, reading a good book. Simple, but all the things this day is meant for - recharging the batteries.

What book, blog or podcast related to your role would you recommend?

I’ve just started listening to Natasha Hawker’s podcast - Employees Matter. 

If you had a magic wand and could change one thing about the business lending industry overnight what would it be?

That financial institutions be in a position to adapt and embrace radical change that comes with a platform like Trade Ledger. 

It’s a win for them. It’s a win for small business. And, well … it's a win for the team at Trade Ledger to see our platform out there, changing the world, too!

What’s one thing people don’t know about you that they would be surprised to find out?

I almost became a primary school teacher.
